Hua Cheng Marks 25 Years of Chinese Language Education in Singapore
Hua Cheng Education Centre marks its 25th anniversary this year, reaffirming its roles in Chinese language education within Singapore’s multicultural context. Established in year 2000, Hua Cheng focuses on practical language skills, cultural exposure, and community-based learning. These efforts support early Chinese language acquisition while aligning with national initiatives to promote bilingualism and preserve cultural heritage.

Building a Strong Foundation in the Chinese Language
Hua Cheng Education Centre was founded by a group of National Institute of Education (NIE) trained educators, guided by a former Associate Professor from NTU-NIE. Over 25 years, Hua Cheng has steadfastly developed and finetuned its proprietary curriculum and teaching methods to support Chinese language education in Singapore.
Centering on enhancing students’ Chinese language proficiency, Hua Cheng’s comprehensive curriculum covers various age groups and educational stages from Nursery 1 to Secondary 4. These meticulously crafted enrichment programmes cater to both native and non-native speakers, with a focus on long-term Chinese language progress via age-appropriate learning, and preparing students for academic successes in PSLE and O-Level.

Supporting National Efforts to Promote Chinese Learning
These efforts align with Singapore’s broader education goals. The Ministry of Education (MOE) in Singapore continues to emphasise bilingualism from a young age as a core part of Singapore’s education framework. In 2025, MOE continues to strengthen Chinese language education through initiatives such as expanded Higher Mother Tongue Language (HMTL) pathways, enhanced reading support at the primary level, and increased exposure to Mother Tongue Languages (MTLs) in preschool settings.
Through its structured programmes across different age groups, Hua Cheng seeks to complement MOE’s efforts by supporting students’ exposure to the language outside the formal school setting. The Centre remains committed to making quality Chinese language education accessible to students from all backgrounds by providing effective yet affordable programmes and fostering inclusive learning environments.

Beyond the Classroom: Community and Culture
In 2025, as Hua Cheng celebrates its silver jubilee, it began a long-term commitment to giving back to society, with an emphasis on values such as environmental responsibility and national pride—aligned with Singapore’s national campaigns.
As part of the government’s “One Million Trees” movement, Hua Cheng took part in a tree-planting event in March 2025. In addition, the team participated in community clean-ups at Bishan Park and Coney Island to support the nationwide “Keep Singapore Clean” and “Go Green” campaigns. These efforts aim to cultivate civic responsibility and love for the nation among both staff and students. Hua Cheng intends to continue these community activities annually as part of its social responsibility efforts.
Throughout the year, Hua Cheng co-hosted cultural events tied to key Chinese festivals such as Lunar New Year, Dumpling Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival. These events continue to serve as platforms for students to interact with cultural traditions in meaningful and hands-on ways.

Looking Ahead in Chinese Language Education
As Hua Cheng marks its 25th anniversary, it aims to continue refining its Chinese tuition curriculum, introducing innovative teaching methods through EdTech digital platform, and deepening its community-based language activities.
Feedbacks from countless parents and guardians over the years have frequently noted aspects such as patient and approachable teachers, prompt and individualised guidance, regular and timely communication on students’ learning progresses, proactive and friendly customer services, and observable improvements in students’ academic performances. These feedbacks remain vital to Hua Cheng’s ongoing efforts to support students more effectively across their different stages of learning.
Looking ahead, Hua Cheng plans to continue collaborating with the parents, educators, cultural organisations and community-centric partners to support students’ continued engagement with the Chinese language and culture.
